28-Sept-2012 – MVC w/entrapment & Air Evacuation –“A” Shift

Incident # 12-05328 – A two car collision on Sniders Highway across from Ladson Lane resulted in one man being trapped and another man being air lifted to a trauma center. The accident occurred at 18:17, Friday evening 28-September when one car reportedly turned into the path of the other. Fire-Rescue units were on the scene within two minutes to find both vehicles with heavy damage. A passenger in the Jeep Cherokee suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a head injury. He was quickly extricated, immobilized and rapidly transported to Colleton Medical Center to meet with LifeNet 4. He was transferred to the flight crew and flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Two additional ambulances and Engine 1 were called to the scene. Engine 1 was need for Hydraulic Rescue Tools to remove the driver’s door from the Jeep. Firefighter-Paramedics treated six patients, including two children who did not require transport. Two adults were transported to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. Walterboro Public Safety and the SC Highway Patrol were also on the scene. Traffic on Sniders Highway was slowed for about an hour until the accident was cleared.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander. Walterboro Public Safety responded with several Engines.
