17/Sept/2012 – Structure Fire – “A” Shift

Incident # 12-05090 – A yard fire destroyed a portion of a wooden fence and damaged two workshops Monday morning 17-Sept. At 04:27, a passing motorist reported seeing one of the buildings on fire with flames in the backyard at 360 Auld Brass Road. Engine 19 arrived five minutes later to find light smoke coming from one workshop and flames burning the exterior of the 15 x 15 building. Firefighters used one 1-3/4 handline to quickly knock down the fire on the exterior of the structure. The crew then entered the building to extinguish the fire in the ceiling and a back wall. Most of the ceiling and the rear paneling in the wood frame building had to be pulled down. The fire apparently had been burning unnoticed for some time. An electrical outlet in the yard on the adjacent property is suspected of starting the blaze. Approximately 50 feet of wooden fence had been completely destroyed. A second work shop on the neighboring property also received minor damage. Firefighters were on the scene performing overhaul for an hour.

Engine 1, Engine 19, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
