06/30/2012 – Stabbing Incident – “A” Shift

Incident # 12-03509 – A 45 year old man received a life threatening stab wound Saturday evening 30-June. The incident was reported at a residence in the 15200 block of Lowcountry Highway at 22:31. Sheriff’s Deputies cleared the scene, arresting an adult male. Firefighter-Paramedics found the patient with a single stab wound to the upper left chest. They began treating his injury and called for a medical helicopter. The patient was moved to Medic 18 where he received bilateral IVs, occlusive dressings and respiratory support. The patient did not speak English, which initially present some problems. Sheriff’s Corporal Jason Fernandes was a great assistance, providing translation and he remained with the patient until he was placed in the helicopter.  Engine 31 established a landing zone in field at Sniders Crossroads so Lifenet 4 could rendezvous with the Medic 18. The patient was transferred without incident, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Engine 31, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
