06/20/2012 – MVC with Double Entrapment – “C” Shift Incident # 12-03291 – At 15:11 a two car, high speed MVC occurred in the 3600 block of Sidneys Road near Danville Lane resulted in two drivers being trapped. A small compact car and a full sized Ford Pickup truck pulling a trailer collided head-on causing heavy damage to both vehicles. Both drivers suffered multiple traumatic injuries. An 18 year old passenger in the pickup truck suffered only minor injuries. He did not require ambulance transportation. Engine 19 and Medic 19 arrived to find the two heavily damaged vehicles, with the entire road blocked. After a quick assessment of the scene, a second ambulance and a medical helicopter were requested. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to perform the extrications on both vehicles. The 18 year old female was treated at the scene with dual IVs, splinting and immobilization, then transported to Colleton Medical Center. The 22 year old male driver of the pick-up was treated at the scene, including multiple IVs, splinting, bleeding control and pain medications. |

He was flown from the scene by Lifenet 7 medical helicopter to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Sidneys Road in the area of the accident was completely blocked for over an hour. Engine 19, Medic 9, Medic 19, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 119 and LifeNet 7 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander. |
