06/11/2012 – High Speed MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-03085 – A high speed two car MVC sent two women to the hospital Monday afternoon 11-June at 12:12. The two small cars collided head-on at the intersection of Charleston Highway (SC Hwy 64) and Featherbed Road. The accident blocked the entire busy highway, causing traffic to back up for over an hour. Engine 12, stationed ½ mile from the intersection was on the scene within a minute. They advised of the heavy damage and requested one additional Medic unit. Both drivers suffered a variety of traumatic injuries, one seriously. No helicopters could fly due to poor weather conditions, so Medic 6 transported one female patient directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. An additional Firefighter-Paramedic from Engine 12 assisted during the transport. The second female patient was transported by Medic 19 to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 12, Medic 6, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
