05/03/2012 Structure Fire C Shift

Incident # 12-02357 A vacant singlewide mobile home was destroyed Thursday afternoon from what appeared to be an unattended debris pile fire. The fire was reported at 15:11 with the caller telling dispatchers that fire was visible from the home. Engine 31 arrived minutes later to find the small mobile home well involved, with approximately 1-1/2 acres of nearby woods burning. Engine 31 used a deck gun to knock down the bulk of the fire, then deployed one 1-3/4 handline to begin overhaul operations. Water supply was conducted with Tenders. A booster line was also deployed to combat the woods fire and a tractor from the Forestry Commission also responded. A second booster line from Tender 4 was used as the woods fire spread to the adjacent property. The building suffered heavy damage, but a second nearby mobile home was protected, suffering no damage. Firefighters were on the scene for 2 hours. Fire-Rescue and Forestry investigators are working to determine the cause of the blaze.
