05/02/2012 – Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony

Law Enforcement Officers from multiple agencies, firefighters and citizens attended a ceremony to honor those who died in the line of duty at the Courthouse Grounds, Wednesday morning 02-May at 10:30. The ceremony was conducted by Chief Deputy Ted Stanfield of the Sheriff’s Office. The Colleton Law Enforcement Officers Memorial stands near the front doors of the County Courthouse. It contains the names of ten officers who made the ultimate sacrifice serving our community. Also attending was a  group of 30 cyclist riding from the Federal Training Center in Brunswick, GA to Washington DC. They coordinated their ride to allow them to be in Walterboro when the ceremony was to be held. Approximately 100 people attended. Rev. Zane Brown spoke and offered an invocation. The ceremony was concluded with a 21 gun salute provided by the Sheriff’s Office honor guard. Ladder 19 was set up to display a large US Flag over the grounds.
