04/27/2012 – Two Fatal MVCs  – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-02257 – A 59 year old Ruffin man, succumbed to traumatic injuries received in a single vehicle accident on Bells Highway at Stokes Road Friday morning 27-April at 09:50. The small pickup truck left the roadway, went down a small embankment before striking a power pole. Medic 26 found the man still in the vehicle when they arrived. He was immobilized, treated at the scene and transported to Colleton Medical Center. He was later flown by Lifenet 4 to the Trauma Center at MUSC where he passed away Sunday. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded.  

Incident # 12-02268 – A 30 year old Smoaks woman lost her life after being struck by a car in the Springtown Community Friday evening, 27-April. The woman was wearing dark clothing and was struck by a passenger car near 9413 Augusta Highway at 22:23. 

The driver of the car was not injured. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the woman at the scene before transporting her to a nearby field to meet with the Lifenet 4 medical helicopter. She was flown directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC. Her condition deteriorated enroute to MUSC. She was taken for emergency surgery, but passed away several hours later due to multiple traumatic injuries. The SC Highway Patrol and Coroner’s Office are investigating to determine if alcohol was a contributing factor.

Engine 17, Engine 26, Medic 26 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Casey Sullivan served as Incident Commander. Firefighter-EMT Leon Bryant with Engine 17 coordinated the LZ at Can City Road and Augusta Highway.
