04/21/2012 – Parachutist Accident with Air Evacuation – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-02166 - A 28 year old parachutist was air lifted to a Trauma Center following a hard landing Saturday afternoon, 21-April. The man was one of many people enjoying the sport during the air show at the Lowcountry Regional Airport’s Wings and Wheels Show. The man impacted the ground at a high rate of speed and received suspected internal injuries. Lifenet 4 was contacted to fly him to MUSC in Charleston for treatment. A Landing Zone was established near the parachutist’s target, well away from the crowds. Air traffic at the airport was temporarily suspended for about 15 minutes until Lifenet finishing loading the patient and left the scene. Fire-Rescue crews were already at the air show, providing an immediate response to the injured man.

ARFF 19, Medic 19 and Car 12 responded. Asst. Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
