04/13/2012 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 12-01981 – The mobile home located at 41 Raleigh Street in the Green Park Subdivision, burned for the second time in the last five weeks. Firefighters saved the home on 04-March, confining the fire to an exterior wall and the ceiling, with little interior damage. At 02:53, Friday morning 13-April, a motorist passing near the home on Gadsden Loop spotted flames coming from the structure. He alerted 9-1-1 to the fire. Engine 1 and Tender 27 arrived 5 minutes later to find the singlewide mobile approximately 60 percent involved. The power had been disconnected due to the previous power and no one was presently living in the residence. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to quickly knock down the fire. One end of the structure was destroyed, however the opposite end was not burned. Firefighters remained on the scene for two hours. Water supply was handled with Tenders. The fire was obviously of suspicious origin. The State Police (SLED) Arson Unit was contacted and sent an investigator to the scene.

He and Fire-Rescue personnel worked the scene for about five hours Friday. The Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation.

Engine 1, Engine 24, Tender 1, Tender 19, Tender 26, Tender 27, Medic 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 118 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic (Acting Battalion Chief) Chris Jones served as Incident Commander.
