4/29/2011- Birth Announcement

We wish to congratulate Battalion Chief Marty Stallings and his wife, State Investigator Angela Stallings, on the birth of their daughter. Makala Lucille is their second child and was born Friday afternoon at Colleton Medical Center at 17:30. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 20 inches. Both mom and daughter are doing well.

 

4/28/2011-

4/28/2011- Announcement from the Training Division
The Training Division received the following message from the SCFA in regards to the dress code while attending SCFA courses or testing: "
When attending any class or test in the regions, or coming to the regional office for any class, test or retesting……..students must wear department uniforms or normal work attire.   Shorts and/or flip flops will no longer be allowed, no exceptions. Students will be turned away if they do not meet dress code requirements.   If your department includes shorts as part of its uniform, those will be allowed in the regions only.    Please be aware that when at the main campus in Columbia, students are not allowed to wear uniform shorts…..long pants only…no exceptions. Please refer to page 15 of the FY2011 Curriculum Catalog, section #6, Dress Code.   This  section will be explained in greater detail in the next catalog…."  

4/27/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

An early morning fire in the 200 block of Hickory Hill Road completely destroyed a home on the property. The incident occurred Wednesday morning 27-April at 06:46. Engine 6 arrived within 6 minutes to  find the single story wood frame structure well involved. The fire had been burning for some time before it was reported. 4/26/2011- Structure/Woods Fire (B-shift)

Station # 9 responded to a reported woods fire at 130 Riverbirch Lane east of Cottageville Tuesday afternoon 26-April at 16:39. Upon arriving, Engine 9 found a singlewide mobile home fully involved. The roof had already collapsed. A large wooden storage building on the property was also on fire as well as approximately one acre of woods/brush. A structural response was assigned to the incident. 4/26/2011-
Colleton County Fire-Rescue is hosting a S-190 Wildland Firefighting Class on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 0900 to 1700 at Station 19.  This class will be taught by the South Carolina Fire Commission.  If you are interested in attending, please contact the Training Division (538-6849) no later than May 20, 2011.  Seating is limited to 30 students.  This class is open to all personnel.  In the event that you have any questions, please contact the training division.

4/26/2011-
We offer condolences to Firefighter Kenny Hickman and his family. Kenny’s father, Howard L. Hickman has passed away. Herndon Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, with the visitation being held Wednesday evening (27-April) between 18:00 and 20:00. The funeral service will be conducted at the Herndon Funeral Home Chapel, located on Bells Hwy at 14:00 Thursday (28-April). Please remember their family in your prayers.

4/23/2011- Wings and Wheels (B-shift)

Fire-Rescue participated in the third annual Wings and Wheels display at the Lowcountry Regional Airport Saturday 23-April. Multiple airplanes, helicopters and vintage automobiles were on hand for viewing by the public. Skydivers performed many maneuvers, while a private company provided helicopter rides. The National Guard had one of their newest helicopters set up for display. Click here for additional information.

 

4/23/2011- MVC with Entrapment (B-shift)

An Islandton teenager was left in critical condition following an MVC on Moselle Road Saturday morning. The high speed single car crash was reported at 09:12, 23-April advising a small car had left the roadway and struck a tree. The caller noted the occupant was trapped. Engine 15 and Medic 18 arrived about 8 minutes later to find the 2006 Saturn Ion with heavy front end damage. Click here for additional information.

 

4/22/2011- MVC with Multiple Injuries (A-shift)

A two vehicle high speed MVC injured five people Friday evening. The accident occurred in the 2100 block of Charleston Highway in front of the First Assembly of God Church 22-April at 19:28. A small car turned into the path of a Ford Pickup truck resulting in heavy damage to the car. The main impact was on the front passenger door. Click here for additional information.

 

4/20/2011- Motor Vehicle Collision (B-shift)

A three car MVC resulted in five people being transported to Colleton Medical Center. The accident occurred in the 1100 block of North Jefferies Blvd Wednesday afternoon at 15:04. Two vehicles were struck in the rear by a full sized pickup truck, sending one vehicle to the right shoulder and the second across Jefferies Blvd to the edge of the parking lot. 4/14/2011- MVC with Air Evacuation (B-shift)

A 52 year old Walterboro man was air lifted following a motorcycle accident. The MVC occurred Thursday afternoon, 14-April at 17:57. The Harley Davidson motorcycle collided with a small SUV in the intersection of Cottageville Highway and Bedon Road. Firefighter-Paramedics found the man lying in the roadway with multiple complaints. He had not been wearing a helmet.  Click here for additional information.

 

4/14/2010-
We would like to congratulate Firefighter-Paramedic Jimmy Guenther and his wife Jennifer on the birth of their son Jacob Lee on 23-March at 23:00. Jacob weighed 8 pounds, 14 ounces and was 22 inches long. Both mother and child are doing fine. Jacob is their first child.

4/7/2011- Fall with Air Evacuation (A-shift)

An Islandton man was air lifted to a Trauma Center Thursday afternoon after he was injured in a fall. The adult male had been working on the roof of a single story residence when he accidently fell approximately 12 feet, landing head first on a concrete driveway. The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a suspected head injury. Click here for additional information.

 

4/7/2011- Woods Fire (A-shift)

A controlled burn of a demolished mobile home, got out of hand Thursday afternoon in the 300 block of Pioneer Lane. The caller to 9-1-1 reported the singlewide mobile home had been torn down and the owner was burning the remaining pile of debris, when the fire spread to nearby woods. Light winds spread the flames, burning approximately 2-1/2 acres and endangering one home.  Click here for additional information.

 

4/6/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

A Siegler Drive home suffered extensive damage in an early morning fire Wednesday, 6-April. At 03:06 Fire-Rescue was notified of a home on fire at 123 Siegler Drive. Engine 19 arrived four minutes later to find the single story dwelling 60% involved.  Firefighters initially used a deck gun to knock down the fire, then deployed one 1-3/4 handline and one 2-1/2 handline. 4/5/2011- MVC with Traumatic Arrest (B-shift)

A high speed single car MVC has left one patient in critical condition at a Lowcountry Trauma Center. Fire units responded to the 900 block of Quail Drive at 14:45  Tuesday afternoon 5-April. A southbound Oldsmobile Intrigue left the roadway before Partridge Trail, striking a large tree on the driver’s side. The impact resulted in approximately two and half feet of intrusion into the vehicle, partially ejecting the female driver. She was wearing a seatbelt.  Click here for additional information.
