11/21/2011 – MVC with ejection – “C” Shift        

Incident # 11-06185 – At 00:46 Monday morning 21-November, an eastbound pickup truck lost control on Cottageville Highway near Bedon Road. The truck left the roadway, went down a 15 foot embankment at a high rate of speed and struck the opposite ditch bank. The force of the impact, caused the truck to be thrown out of the deep ditch and to come to rest on its side near the woods. The adult male driver was ejected from the truck and found lying in a wooded area near the vehicle. The truck caught fire following the crash. A passing motorist stopped to render aid and used a cooler of water to extinguish the fire. Firefighters arrived a short time later, finding the man semiconscious with multiple traumatic injuries and a head injury. He was treated at the scene and then transported to Colleton Medical Center. No medical helicopters could fly due to fog. The man was stabilized at CMC and transferred by Fire-Rescue Medic 26 to the Trauma Center at MUSC.

Engine 19, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-EMT Marshall Murdaugh served as Incident Commander.
