Incident # 11-06183 – A single car MVC resulted in two people being injured Sunday evening 20-November. At 23:40, a Ford Expedition traveling south on I-95 left the roadway near the 60 mile marker and struck several trees. The SUV flipped over trapping both occupants inside the overturned car which received heavy damage with the roof crushed to the top of the front seats. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a short time later and were able to crawl inside the vehicle through the rear window. One firefighter was able to assist the female into moving around and freeing herself. She was then able to crawl out the rear window. The Firefighter-Paramedic was able to begin treating the trapped male, while other crewmembers used Holmatro Hydraulic Tools to remove the heavily damaged driver’s door. With the door removed, personnel were able immobilize the man on a long spine board and remove him from the SUV. Both patients were treated at the scene and transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 26. The accident is being investigated by the SC Highway Patrol.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic John Schneider served as Incident Commander.
