10/27/2011 – MVC with entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 11-05771 – A two car accident in the 9200 block of Augusta Highway sent a St. George man to the hospital Thursday afternoon 27-Ocotber at 15:26. According to a witness, the 2010 Nissan Altima pulled into the path of a west bound pick-up truck. The truck struck the car broadside in the driver’s door causing heavy damage to the small car and crushing the driver’s seat. The driver received multiple traumatic, non-life threatening injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. No one in the pickup truck was injured. Firefighter-Paramedics used Holmatro Rescue Tools to remove the driver’s door to free the victim. He was immobilized on a long spine board, then transported by Medic 26 to Colleton Medical Center for further treatment. Traffic on Augusta Highway was down to one lane for about 45 minutes. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 17, Rescue 1, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 118 and Car 116 responded. Battalion Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
