10-11-2011 – Motorcycle vs Pickup MVC – “B” Shift

Incident # 11-05515 – A two car MVC sent one man to a Trauma Center Tuesday evening, 11-October. The accident occurred at the intersection of Sniders Highway and Interstate 95 at 21:05, when a pickup truck pulled into the path of an eastbound motorcycle. The motorcycle impacted the side of the pickup truck resulting in multiple traumatic injuries to the driver. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. Medic 1 arrived to find the cyclist lying in the roadway. He was treated for his injuries at the scene and a medical helicopter was requested. The flight was declined due to fog. Medic 1 transported the patient 51 miles directly to the Trauma Center at MUSC where he had surgery.

Medic 1, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Walterboro Police responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
