07/16/2011 – Shooting Incident – “A” Shift

Incident # 11-03917 – Firefighter-Paramedics treated a 64 year old man for several GSWs Saturday morning, 16-July at 04:43. Law Enforcement is reporting the man was shot three times, at least once in the back of the head and once in the shoulder, by an unknown assailant. The worker of Heirs Construction Company was in the company’s yard at 715 Green Pond Highway before daybreak, loading or unloading a piece of equipment from a tractor trailer. After being shot, he was able to contact 9-1-1 from a cell phone. He was conscious when crews arrived, but was in critical condition. A medical helicopter was not immediately available. Medic 1 transported him to Colleton Medical Center where he was stabilized and intubated. He was flown by Lifenet 3 from CMC to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.

Engine 1, Medic 1, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
