5/25/2011 – Fatal MVC – “C” Shift

Incident # 11-02885 – A two vehicle MVC has left one person dead and another person injured.  Fire-Rescue responded to the fatal collision in the 21000 block of Augusta Hwy (SC Hwy 61) at Pumpkin Girl Lane Wednesday morning 25-May at 06:22.  This is the second fatal MVC on the same stretch of highway in the last week.  The MVC involved a small passenger car and a tractor trailer transporting boat hulls.  The impact caused extreme damage to the passenger vehicle.  Firefighter-Paramedics found the driver of the passenger vehicle had injuries incompatible with life.  The driver of the tractor trailer was transported by Medic 9 to Colleton Medical Center with minor injuries.  A 200 yard section of the highway was covered with diesel fuel as a result of the collision.  As a result, traffic on the highway was closed for several hours while the S.C. Highway Patrol and Colleton County Coroner’s Office conducted their investigations.  The Coroner’s Office transported the deceased patient to MUSC for further examination.  The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the motor vehicle collision.

Engine 9, Medic 9 and Battalion 1 responded.  Firefighter/Paramedic Jon Ryan served as the Incident Commander.
