“B” Shift – MVC w/entrapment & Air Evacuation

Incident # 10-06633 – Stations 1, 5, 19 and 26 responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Jefferies Highway (US Hwy 15) and Augusta Highway (SC Hwy61) [Canadys Crossroads] Thursday morning 9-December at 0945. Initial reports indicated five people were injured, however only one patient required medical treatment. A full sized pickup truck and a Cadillac sedan collided in the intersection. The high speed crash caused the Cadillac to over-turn trapping the male driver. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries, including a suspected head injury. Firefighter-Paramedics treated the man inside the car, while other crewmembers used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricate the patient. He was removed with full spinal precautions. A medical helicopter was requested and landed in a field several miles from the scene. Medic 26 transported the patient to Pleasant Grove Road and Burlington Road to meet with the Omniflight-Charleston helicopter. They flew the patient to the Trauma Center at MUSC. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.

Engine 5, Engine 19, Rescue 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 116 and Car 118 responded. Captain Scott Feather served as Incident Commander. Engineer-EMT-I Chuck Moyer handled the LZ.
