“C” Shift – Structure Fire

Incident # 10-06613 – An early morning house fire destroyed a home at 14209 Round O Road Wednesday morning 8-December. At 0331, 9-1-1 Operators received a report of the fire, where the caller stated the home had already burned to the ground, but a nearby barn was endangered. Engine 9 arrived minutes later to find the remains of a one story wood frame structure which was completely destroyed. The barn was no longer endangered. Only one two by four was still standing upright. Crews were unable to access the home until the power company arrived. The entire structure was surrounded by a metal chain link fence. The electrical service line had fallen on the fence preventing firefighters from entering the yard. Power lines along the roadway and a service line that also transverse the yard prevented the use of a deck gun. Once the power company arrived and secured the electrical current, firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines to extinguish the remaining fire. Units were on the scene for over two hours. The cause of the fire in under investigation.

Engine 9, Engine 19, Tender 19, Tender 5, Medic 9, Medic 19, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Dan Barb served as Incident Commander.
