Run # 10-04487 – Stations 9 and 19 responded to a possible explosives scare in the 300 block of Rehoboth Road near Lightsey Quarters Court Saturday morning 14-August at 0901. Crews received a report of a large box on the side of the road with an orange explosives placard on the side. Fire-Rescue and Law Enforcement agencies blocked off the busy road. Using binoculars, Engine 9’s crew got close enough to verify the placard. Haz-Mat 19 and a bomb team from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene. The bomb squad deployed a robot to check the box. The robot was equipped with cameras and mechanical arms. It was remotely operated to drive to the box, examine it and the other items near the container. The bomb technicians them used the robotic arms to open the container and empty the box. No explosives were found. The contents were bagged up and turned over to the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office for further investigation. Rehoboth Road was closed for three and half hours.

Engine 9, Tender 9, Medic 9, HazMat 19, Battalion 1, Car 11 and Car 12 responded. Battalion Chief Brent Dalton served as Incident Commander.
