Colleton County Fire-Rescue


Stations 5, 9, 11, and 19 responded to a structure fire at 329 Whites Aves north of Cottageville at 0933, Thursday 29-April. Engine 9 and Medic 9 were originally dispatched to a woods fire reported to be near this location. On their arrival, firefighters found an approximately Ĺ acre woods fire and an older mobile home completely burned down. The singlewide mobile home had a wooden addition to the building. A structural response was assigned to the incident. Engine 9 used itís deck gun to knock down the bulk of the flames, then deployed one 1-3/4 handline and a booster line to extinguish the remains of the building and begin working on the woods fire. A tractor from the Forestry Commission was requested and responded. Firefighters spent an hour extinguishing the fire. The Forestry Commission cut a line around the perimeter of the fire to contain the woods fire. The fire spread from an unattended trash fire on the property.
