Colleton County Fire-Rescue

2/27/2010

Stations 1, 2, 6, 12, 22 and 25 responded to a structure fire next door to 1552 Magwood Bryant Road in the Green Pond Community at 1552, Saturday afternoon 27-February. The caller to 9-1-1 reported smoke and fire coming from the home. Engine 6 and Medic 6 arrived within three minutes to find a singlewide mobile home fully involved with flames blowing across the roadway. The roof had already collapsed. Strong winds fanned the flames as firefighters made an initial attack with an 1-3/4 and one 2-1/2 inch handline. What was left of the structure was quickly brought under control. Fire units pulled the tin roof from the remains of the trailer to extinguish the remaining fire. Units were on the scene for about 1-1/2 hours. Water supply was provided by Tenders. No one was at home when the fire was reported. It is believed to have started from a 20 year old kerosene heater. The owner stated that he had been having problems with the unit.

Engine 2, Engine 6, Tender 1, Tender 6, Tender 12, Tender 22, Tender 25, Tender 27, Medic 6 and Battalion 1 responded.  Battalion Chief Marty Stallings served as Incident Commander.
