Stations 1, 26 and 27 responded to a high speed single car MVC on I-95 at the 61 mile marker southbound, Friday morning at 1033. The elderly North Carolina couple lost control of their vehicle, struck several trees in the median trapping both the driver and front passenger in the wreckage. Crews from Station # 26 were on the scene within minutes and began treating the patients. Holmatro rescue tools from Engine 26 were used to pop open the passenger door to allow access to the passenger. Crews used another set of Holmatro rescue tools to remove both driver’s side doors and hydraulic cutters to remove the “B” post. The 93 year old driver was removed with full spinal precautions before being moved to Medic 27. His wife was transported by Medic 26. Both patients were transported to Colleton Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Engine 26, Medic 26, Medic 27, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Squad 27 and Truck 12 responded. Asst. Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
