23/August/2023 - Fatal MVC, Auto vs Dirt Bike - "C" Shift

Incident # 23-06341 - An adult male died from injuries he received while riding a small dirt bike in the 8200 block of Ritter Road at 00:04 Wednesday morning 23-August. The man was riding the dirt bike eastbound on the dark rural section of roadway when it was struck from behind by an eastbound Honda Odyssey minivan. The dirt bike had no lights. The man was ejected from the dirt bike and suffered multiple traumatic injuries. The bike became impaled in the front of the minivan. The driver of the minivan was not injured. Callers to 9-1-1 reported the dirt bike driver was not breathing. Firefighter-Paramedics arrived a short time later to find the man lying in the roadway with no signs of life. The Coroner's Office was notified and responded to the scene. Ritter Road in the 8200 block to Cooks Hill Road was closed for several hours. The SC Highway Patrol and their MAIT Team are investigating the accident. The Colleton County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene. 

Engine 6, Medic 6, Battalion 1 and Car 111 responded. Firefighter-EMT Bryon Perry served as Incident Commander.
