02/February/2019 – MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 19-00736 – A 12 year old boy was critically injured in an ATV accident near Islandton Saturday afternoon 02-February at 13:18. The accident occurred in a wooded area off of the 2900 block of Polk Road. The child received multiple traumatic injuries including a severe head injury. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly treated him on the scene and requested the C.A.R.E. Flight medical helicopter to meet the ambulance at Bells Crossroads. Firefighters set up a landing zone in the field in front of Bells Elementary School. Fire-Rescue Medic 18 transported the child emergent to that location with additional personnel on board the ambulance to assist with patient care. Firefighter-Paramedics and the Flight Nurse worked for about 15 minutes to stabilize the patient before flying him to the Children’s Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. He remained in critical condition upon arrival to MUSC.

Engine 7, Medic 7, Medic 18, Car 105, Car 112 and C.A.R.E. Flight responded. Deputy Chief Greene served as Incident Commander.
