01/January/2018 – MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 19-00001 – The first response of the new year sent five people to a Trauma Center. At 00:30 on 01-January a northbound Lincoln traveling in the 2900 block of Robertson Blvd crossed the center line and struck a southbound Honda Accord head-on resulting in heavy damage to both vehicles. Five people, including two children in the Accord suffered significant injuries. The driver of the Lincoln fled the scene on foot, but was apprehend by Law Enforcement a short time later. A small girl received multiple traumatic injuries, including a head injury and was immobilized at the scene, then transported to the helipad at Colleton Medical Center to meet with the C.A.R.E. Flight helicopter. She was transferred to the flight crew, then flown to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. The other four patients also suffered traumatic injuries and were all transported to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Fire-Rescue Medic 1 and Medic 26. Robertson Blvd in the area of the accident was closed for 2 hours. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

Engine 19, Medic 1, Medic 19, Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Captain Gary Nahrstedt served as Incident Commander.
