17/August/2017 – Fatal MVC with Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-05718 – One person died and three others were injured in a two vehicle high speed collision on I-95 near the 44 mile marker south bound Thursday morning 17-August at 11:43. A southbound Chevrolet moving van collided with the rear of a Honda Accord causing massive damage to the car. The van traveled a short distance before rolling over on the driver’s side, trapping the two adult male occupants. The Accord was thrown to the wood line, ejecting the male driver from the car. He suffered multiple traumatic injuries and did not survive the collision. The front seat female passenger also suffered multiple traumatic injuries. Three additional Fire-Rescue ambulances were dispatched to the scene and the C.A.R.E. Flight medical helicopter also responded. The female patient was quickly extricated from the wreckage and treated in Medic 26. She was transferred to the Flight Crew and flown to the Trauma Center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston. Other Firefighter-Paramedics used pneumatic rescue tools to cut away a portion of the roof of the van to extricate the two adult male occupants. They were transported to Colleton Medical Center by Medic 1. The Coroner’s Office was notified for the driver of the Accord. They responded and transported him from the scene. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Traffic on I-95 was down to one lane for several hours and backed up over 10 miles.  

Engine 1, Engine 8, Medic 1, Medic 13, Medic 19, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Car 105, Car 110, Car 111, Car 112, Car 116 and Car 119 responded. Deputy Chief Dr. David Greene served as Incident Commander.
