10/June/2017 – MVC with Entrapment – “C” Shift

Incident # 17-03956 – At 07:21 on Saturday 10-June, two vehicles collided head-on in the 300 block of Cane Branch Road approx. 3/10 of a mile south of Sniders Hwy (SC Hwy 63). A northbound full sized Chevrolet pickup truck received heavy front end damage and over-turned in the ditch. The 20 yr. old male driver was able to crawl out of the vehicle. He was wearing a seatbelt and suffered multiple non-life threatening injuries. A southbound minivan travelled several hundred feet after the collision and came to rest in the wood line on the northbound side of the road. The 31 yr. old female driver suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was trapped in the wreckage. Both vehicles were estimated to be traveling over 50 mph. Cane Branch Road was blocked due to the wrecked vehicles and a large amount of debris in the roadway. Firefighter-Paramedics treated both patients at the scene and used Holmatro Rescue Tools to extricated the driver of the van. Hydraulic spreaders and cutters were used to remove the driver’s door, then two hydraulic rams were used to displace the dash off of the patient. She was extricated with spinal precautions, then transported emergent in Medic 1 to the Trauma Center at Trident Hospital in North Charleston. Medic 26 transported the male patient to Colleton Medical Center. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

 Engine 1, Medic 1, Medic 26, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 112 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
