24/August/2016 – MVC with Entrapment – “B” Shift

Incident # 16-05554 – An adult female received non-life threatening injuries after her vehicle collided with a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 near the 40 mile marker northbound, Wednesday afternoon 24-August at 16:13. The driver’s side of the Chevrolet Impala suffered heavy damage, as well as the Kenworth truck receiving substantial damage to the chassis. Firefighter-Paramedics found the car in the breakdown lane just north of the Combahee River Bridge. Crews began treating her injuries prior to the extrication. Firefighters used Holmatro Hydraulic Tools to remove both driver’s side doors and the “B” post. The patient was extricated with full spinal precautions, then transported by Fire-Rescue Medic 13 to Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. The truck driver was not injured. A third car was also involved, but no one was injured in that vehicle. The SC Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.  

Engine 13, Medic 13, Rescue 1, Battalion 1, Car 12, Car 105, Car 107, Car 116 and Car 118 responded. Deputy Chief David Greene served as Incident Commander.
