21/Sept/2015 – Auto vs Pedestrian w/Air Evac – “C” Shift

Incident # 15-05484 – A 55 year old North Carolina man was in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on Bells Hwy at the intersection of Mount Carmel Road Monday evening 21-September at 21:14. Witnesses reported the truck was traveling the speed limit of 45 mph when the man walked into the path of the moving vehicle. He was thrown into the air and struck a second vehicle that was stopped at the intersection. Firefighter-Paramedics quickly treated the man at the scene and alerted the medical helicopter at Colleton Medical Center. He was immobilized, then rapidly transported in Medic 26 to the helipad at CMC. Additional Fire-Rescue personnel assisted with treatment enroute to the ED.  The LifeNet 4 Flight Crew flew him to the Trauma Center at MUSC in Charleston. Walterboro Police are investigating the incident.

Medic 26, Battalion 1, Car 109 and Car 118 responded. Battalion Chief Ben Heape served as Incident Commander.
