25/October/2013 – Structure Fire – “C” Shift

Incident # 13-05818 – Firefighters saved a Wesley Grove home and rescued a canine, after a fire caused heavy damage to the kitchen. 9-1-1 was notified of smoke coming from a residence at 55 Saw Dust Drive at 14:17, Friday afternoon 25-October. Engine 9 arrived to find smoke coming from the singlewide mobile home. Firefighters forced entry through the front door, extending an 1-3/4 handline inside. They found fire burning in the kitchen in the center of the structure. The fire had burned from the stove to the kitchen cabinets and was extending across the ceiling. Crews quickly controlled the spread of the flames, containing the fire damage to the kitchen. While searching the home for any victims, firefighters found a large pit bull very much alive in one of the back bedrooms. The dog seemed glad to be rescued and went calmly outside of the smoke filled home. He did not appear to have suffered any adverse effects. Investigators determined the fire started from a pot on the stove, then spread to the cabinets. The was inadvertently left on, when the occupant left for work several hours earlier. Early notification from observant neighbors contributed to saving the home and dog. The remainder of the home suffered moderate smoke damage, but almost all of the personal items were saved. Fire crews were on the scene for 1-1/2 hours.

Engine 9, Engine 19, Tender 2, Tender 9, Tender 17, Tender 19, Tender 903, Battalion 1, Car 12 and Car 111 responded. Lt. Jimmy Jacques served as Incident Commander.
