7/31/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

At 11:01 Sunday morning 31-July, 9-1-1 Operators were notified of a barn on fire at 2621 Miracle Drive. The caller reported a nearby mobile home was endangered. Engine 31 arrived 8 minutes later, reporting a fully involved barn, advising the roof had already collapsed. Engine 31 used a deck gun to knock down the flames, then deployed two handlines to begin working the fire. Click here for additional information.

 

7/28/2011- MVC with Ejection & Air Evacuation (B-shift)

Two tractor trailers collided injuring both drivers and backing up southbound traffic on I-95 for several hours. The accident occurred at the 42 mile marker just before the Lowcountry Hwy (US Highway 21) overpass. A southbound truck hauling a container suffered an apparent front tire blowout causing the driver to lose control and strike another southbound truck that was not pulling a trailer. 7/28/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

Firefighters were sent to 538 Bee Street in the Foxfield Subdivision at 13:38 Thursday afternoon 28-July. Engine 24 arrived six minutes later to report a doublewide mobile home 50% involved with flames through the roof. Firefighters deployed two 1-3/4 handlines and one 2-1/2 handline. Crews knocked down enough flames to enter the building through the front door located in the center of the structure. Click here for more info.

 

7/28/2011-
We are sad to report that Retired Firefighter James Bryan of Station 4 passed away suddenly this morning at his home. Bryan recently celebrated his 70th birthday and was remarried three weeks ago. He served this community well in many capacities, but in the last four decades he helped bring fire protection to the Ruffin Area in 1974. He worked with other community members to establish the Ruffin Rural Fire Department, which was District Four of the Colleton Volunteer Fireman’s Association. He went on to serve nearly 40 years as a volunteer firefighter with Stations 4 and 18. James also had two sons, Jamie and Matthew who also served with Stations 4 and 18. Bryan worked about 35 years with the Coastal Electric Cooperative, serving rural residents. After retirement, he worked with Breland Hill Farm and Herndon Funeral Home. He was a great asset to the Community and the Fire Department serving in many positions with the Co-op.  He was a genuinely a kind and caring person who will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be held at the Herndon Funeral Home located at 1193 Bells Highway in Walterboro, Saturday evening 30-July from 18:00 to 20:00.
Funeral services will be conducted at 15:00, Sunday 31-July at Bethel United Methodist Church, 16147 Lowcountry Highway, Ruffin

7/28/2011-
Visitation for Firefighter-Paramedic David Drawdy’s mother, Cathleen Johnson-Drawdy, will be held at Herndon’s Funeral Home located at 1193 Bells Highway in Walterboro, Friday evening 29-July from 18:00 to 20:00.  Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, 30-July at Wynn’s Family Cemetery  in Grays at 11:00.

We offer condolences to the family of Firefighter-Paramedic David Drawdy. David’s mother passed away at Colleton Medical Center this afternoon. We will provide information on the services when we receive them.

7/26/2011- MVC with Entrapment (C-shift)

A single vehicle accident sent one man to the hospital Tuesday morning 26-July. The north bound small car left the roadway in the 9800 block of Green Pond Hwy overturning in a deep ditch. The driver of the car was trapped in the wreckage in about two feet of water. The accident occurred during a thunderstorm. The adult male could be heard from outside the car. 7/26/2011-
We wish to extend condolences to the family of Firefighter-Paramedic Chris Jones. Chris’ grandfather passed away this weekend. The family will be holding a private service. Please remember them in your prayers.

07/25/2011– Multiple Alarm Woods Fire (B-shift)

A small woods fire that began after a tree fell on a high tension power line near the 2800 block of Bethel Road, grew to exceed 120 acres before midnight Monday 25-July. Fire-Rescue was notified of the fire at 15:52. The afternoon was clear with moderate winds. Due to the recent drought conditions, the area was extremely dry. 7/25/2011-
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of County Councilman Floyd Buckner. Mr. Buckner passed away Saturday 23-July at his home after a long illness. He has served as a Councilman for 26 years and was the only remaining member who established the Fire-Rescue Program for this community in 1994. He had a Master Degree in Education and worked for the Colleton County School District for 39 years.

 Visitation is scheduled from 18:00 to 20:00 at the St Peters AME Church located at 302 Fishburne Street in Walterboro. The funeral service will be conducted Wednesday 27-July at 11:00 in Hampton, SC. at St. John Baptist Church, 15385 Old Salkehatchie Highway, Varnville, SC. Committal, final prayer, and interment will follow in the Frampton Cemetery.

Visitation for Firefighter-Paramedic Blaine Harrison’s father will be held at Parker Rhoden Funeral Home, located at 117 Paul Street in Walterboro from 18:00 to 20:00, Monday 25-July. The funeral service will be conducted at Bedon Baptist Church 2410 Cottageville Highway, Tuesday 26-July at 11:00.

7/24/2011-

7/23/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

Firefighters were called to 1123 Saint Peters Road at 00:17 Saturday morning 23-July, for a reported fire in a bedroom. Engine 19 arrived at the rural residence ten minutes later to find light smoke coming from the approximately  10,500 square foot three story home with flames visible from the rear of the structure. The occupants had been alerted to the fire by the residential smoke alarms inside the building. Click here for more info.

 

7/21/2011- MVC with multiple ejections & air evacs (C-shift)

A high speed single vehicle MVC resulted in five males being injured Thursday morning 21-July at 07:25. Three received critical injuries. The accident occurred on Confederate Highway (SC Highway 641) approximately 1-1/2 miles east of Broxton Bridge Highway (US Hwy 601) in western Colleton County near the Bamberg County line. 7/19/2011- Shooting Incident (B-shift)

A shooting incident has left a 15 year old male in critical condition and a 17 year old with a minor grazing wound. The incident was reported at 08:53, Tuesday morning 19-July at 1650 Keegan Drive north of Walterboro. A suspect shot the 15 year old in the head causing a critical injury. The second patient received a minor grazing wound to the neck. Engine 19, Medic 19 and Car 118 arrived minutes later.Click here for more information.

 

7/18/2011- Multi-vehicle MVC(s) (A-shift)

Two separate accidents involving the same vehicle resulted in three people being transported to the hospital Monday evening 18-July. In the first accident which was reported at 21:14, a car was struck by a full size Ford Pickup Truck near the intersection of Bells Highway and Mount Carmel Road. The pickup truck fled the scene, leaving a pregnant woman injured in her car. Click here for additional information.

 

7/16/2011- Fatal Vehicle Fire (B-shift)

A body was found inside a burning vehicle at 1241 Rivers Street Saturday evening 16-July at 21:26. Firefighters were called to the scene for a report of fire under a vehicle at this location. On arrival, Engine 1 found the vehicle about 1/3 involved with heavy flames from the engine compartment and forward portion of the interior. Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames with one 1-3/4 handline...click here for additional information.

 

7/16/2011- Structure Fire (B-shift)

An alert neighbor is credited with saving a Lodge Home Saturday evening 16-July. At 18:12 a neighbor on Trackside Drive reported smoke and flames coming a home near the corner of Bells Hwy and Junction Road. Firefighters arrived minutes later to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the single story dwelling at 19852 Bells Highway. Click here for additional information.

 

7/16/2011- Shooting Incident (A-shift)

Firefighter-Paramedics treated a 64 year old man for several GSWs Saturday morning, 16-July at 04:43. Law Enforcement is reporting the man was shot three times, at least once in the back of the head and once in the shoulder, by an unknown assailant. The worker of Heirs Construction Company was in the company’s yard at 715 Green Pond Highway before daybreak....click here for additional information..

 

7/8/2011- Shooting Incident (C-shift)

A Walterboro man was injured in a shooting incident near Lincoln Apartments Friday evening. Medic 1 was dispatched to 404 Whetsel Street for a report of a person shot near one of the buildings at 22:47. A Walterboro Public Safety Officer found the victim lying on the ground at the intersection of Whetsel St and Sweat St in front of Oakwood Nursing Home about on e block from the complex. 7/3/2011- MVC with Ejection & Air Evacuation (A-shift)

Multiple units responded to a two vehicle accident on Green Pond Highway south of Poor Farm Road Sunday evening 03-July at 21:43. Two north bound pickup trucks, one of which was pulling a boat, collided when one vehicle attempted to pass the other. The truck pulling the boat went off of the right hand shoulder and over turned at least once coming to rest on its wheels. Click here for additional information.

 

7/3/2011- Structure Fire (A-shift)

An electrical problem is suspected of causing a fire that heavily damaged a Brittlebank Road home Sunday evening 3-July. At 21:15, firefighters responded to 609 Brittlebank Road to find a singlewide mobile home with heavy smoke coming the building and fire venting from a window at the rear of the structure. Firefighters made an aggressive attack on the fire, entering through the front door with an 1-3/4 handline.Click here for more info.

 

7/3/2011- MVC with Entrapment & Air Evacuation (A-shift)

A single vehicle MVC resulted in multiple traumatic injuries for an Islandton woman Sunday morning 3-July at 08:23. Firefighters were called to the 3400 block of Cross Swamp Road near Islandton after the vehicle left the roadway and struck a driveway culvert. The small pickup truck became airborne before landing on its side in the ditch. Click here for additional information.

 

7/3/2011- Structure Fire (C-shift)

Two people were injured in an early morning house fire in Cottageville, Sunday 03-July at 00:30. Firefighters arrived at 127 Dairy Lane to find the singlewide mobile home approximately 25% involved with heavy fire and smoke showing. The two occupants had exited the building, but both the male and female suffered smoke inhalation, with the female suffering facial burns... click here for additional information.
