03/13/2011 – “C” Shift – Vehicle / Aircraft Fire

Incident # 11-01446 – Stations 2 and 12 responded to a report of a vehicle fire at 9291 Charleston Hwy, Sunday afternoon 13-March at 15:38. Engine 12 arrived to find a fully involved pickup truck, a small Cessna plane burning and a fast moving grass fire endangering a house, storage building and several pieces of personal property. Engine 12 deployed two handlines to combat the fires. Despite the fire reaching the home, firefighters prevented any damage to the dwelling. The grass fire destroyed several items in the yard and damaged a LP Tank. Firefighters used an 1-3/4 handline to extinguish the pickup truck and the airplane. A second line was used to extinguish the fire at the LP Tank and home. A booster line was deployed for the grass fire. The plane was partially disassembled and under repair. The truck and plane both suffered heavy damage. Units were on the scene for nearly an hour.

Engine 12, Tender 2 and Tender 12 responded. Lieutenant Gene Brown served as Incident Commander.
