Stations 18 and 23 responded to a shooting incident at 4471 Cayce Road near the Ashton Community at 1855, Monday evening 10-May. Medic 18 arrived along with Sheriff’s Deputies to find a male patient lying face down in the yard. After examination, he was found to have received multiple gunshot wounds and had no signs of life. The Sheriff’s Office secured the scene and Fire-Rescue personnel stood by until the Coroner’s Office arrived. Engine 23 remained on the scene to provide lighting for Sheriff’s Deputies while they investigated the incident.  

According to the Sheriff’s Office Press release, witnesses at the scene advised the victim, a 48 year old Neeses, SC (Orangeburg County) man came to the residence and confronted the home owner about a couple of dogs that were previously stolen from him. During the argument the suspect fired several rounds at the victim and then fled the scene in his red 2002 Chevrolet Pickup truck. The suspect turned himself in to Sheriff’s Deputies Tuesday at approximately 1300 and he was incarcerated at the Colleton County Detention Center.

Engine 23, Medic 18, Battalion 1 and Car 12 responded. Firefighter-Paramedic Michelle Bryan-Solvik served as Incident Commander which was later turned over to Captain Doug Mixson Jr. .
